Our Programs
English Classes
English Classes at DWELL help equip resettled refugees and other immigrants with a network of relationships and practical skills needed to build a successful life in America. In addition to free English classes, subject-focused groups including Citizenship, Driving, and GED are available for participants as needed.
Class Times
Monday & Wednesday Nights 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
Tuesday & Thursday Mornings
10:00 AM - 11:15 AM
Passport to Literacy
Passport to Literacy is a tutoring program that promotes literacy among the 1st through 12th grade children of resettled refugee and immigrant families. Students spend an hour once a week working with tutors on a variety of English Language Art skills using materials provided, as well as receive one-on-one homework help.
Special Events
DWELL hosts a variety of special events such as picnics, cultural nights, and other fun ways to gather throughout the year. A special event is a great place to meet families and begin volunteering with Dwell if you are unavailable to help at a weekly program. These events do not require the same volunteer commitment level as the English Classes or Passport to Literacy.
Food Distributions
DWELL partners with “Feeding the Gulf Coast” to organize a free food distribution on the third Saturday of every month to provide assistance to individuals in need within the community. DWELL distributes 10k pounds of perishable and non-perishable goods to an average of 300 clients and community members each month. Over 7,000 have been served through food distributions in 2024.
Volunteers are asked to arrive at 8:00am. Distribution usually begins around 9:30am.
